Our Team
Dr. David Underwood
Dr. David Underwood is board-certified in ophthalmology and earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He received his medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, College of Medicine, where he also completed his residency in ophthalmology. His professional memberships include the Academy of Ophthalmology, American Medical Association and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Dr. Underwood was the first to use the excimer laser for vision correction in West Tennessee. Since then, he has performed more than 50,000 surgeries. He has remained a trendsetter in refractive surgery by performing the first PRK, PTK, LASIK and Z-LASIK in West Tennessee.
Dr. Matthew Hughes
Dr. Matthew Hughes, originally from upstate New York, completed his undergraduate studies at Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania, and continued his education at the Illinois College of Optometry/Illinois Eye Institute in Chicago. Dr. Hughes was awarded a residency in ocular disease and pathology and completed a post residency fellowship in advanced ocular disease. His practice is centered on the treatment of complex eye disorders. He lectures nationally on advanced medical/surgical disease and practice management.
Dr. Cayce Davis
Dr. Cayce Davis graduated magna cum laude from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, receiving the college’s Clinical Excellence Award. Dr. Davis completed external rotations at the Vitreoretinal Foundation in Memphis. She completed her residency in ocular disease and pathology at The Hughes Eye Center.
Dr. Elizabeth Nordtvedt
Dr. Elizabeth Nordtvedt graduated from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis. She also is a graduate of the University of Tennessee Knoxville with a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering. Dr. Nordtvedt completed her residency in ocular disease and pathology at The Hughes Eye Center.
Dr. Micah McCarty
Dr. Micah McCarty is a native of Huntingdon, Tennessee, and graduated as a Doctor of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry. Prior to earning her doctorate, Dr. McCarty graduated from Union University with a degree in Cell and Molecular Biology. Dr. McCarty will complete a residency in ocular disease and pathology at Hughes Eye Group in 2023.
Erica Pruitt
Erica Pruitt, LASIK specialist, has been the Director of LASIK Center of Jackson since its opening in 2007. She joined The Hughes Eye Center in 2006 as an ophthalmic technician and has been involved in ophthalmic surgery in Jackson for more than 17 years.
